Stunning Landscapes Show the Ferocity of Nature

Photographer’s girlfriend leads him around the world.

While writing is my first love, I have a love of photography as well.  Blame it on the social media era I’ve been raised in, or blame it on my photographer of a father.  Either way, I love photographing my life and sharing it with others.

Since my writing, especially my poetry, comes from a personal place, I made the decision to use my own photography as cover art for my books, to keep with the personal, extension of myself theme.  While the cover of Silk is obvious, the cover of The Great Good Thing is actually the hot springs in Yellowstone.

With Skylark set to release soon, I found myself flipping back and forth in an attempt to choose a photograph to use as the cover art.  Unable to decide, I’ve narrowed my choices to a top six and am now going to leave the vote up to you.

Which image to you prefer?

Okpo Land
Okpo City, South Korea

The park was shut down in 1999 due to many mysterious fatal accidents in the park. The last fatal accident that occurred before the park was shut down was when a young girl tragically fell to her death on one of the rides in the park. Immediately following the accident, the owner of the park disappeared and was never heard from again. Even though the park is extremely creepy and has an unsettling back-story, it doesn’t stop adventurers from exploring and venturing through the park.

I’ve always wanted to go to an abandoned amusement park..

Instead of a bird related thing, I’m thinking the cover art of Skylark should involve fire. [since the girl I’d like to photograph/put on the cover is unavailable]

The sound your laughter makes
against the hardwood floor
in the hallway
leading to the kitchen
where the roof is leaking
again.

Your two sizes too big
woolen stockings
folded down around
your ankles
and my old sweater
slipping off the shoulders
of its captor
you thief.

A pitter-patter
tim-tam
tink-tank
sound
played by our
personal orchestra
of pots and pans
and the vase your mother
gave you for Christmas
that you hate
all composed by my
favorite maestro
you.

Candles in the fireplace
to keep us warm
as you share your favorite
poem with me saying
they are the words
trapped inside your heart
and when I share my favorite
song on your grandfather’s
old record player
you smile, hum along
even though you don’t
know the words
or the melody
or the chords
and tell me
this is what my heart
sounds like.

I disagree.

Maybe a small part
of my heart
sounds like this song
you promise to dance to
for the rest of your life
even if I’m not a part
of that adventure.

The mass of my heart
though,
is made up of your laughter
on hardwood floors
on rainy weekends
wearing my sweater
as you read to me
and fill my soul up
with simply good things.

Your sigh when I say,
“I love you.”
That is what my heart sounds like.

November Visual Diary: Pt. One

My room is where the mass of my writing/plotting is done as it’s an environment I have complete control over… which means I don’t get distracted by people watching and can adorn the space with any knick knacks I find inspirational.

Recently, I cleared off my pin board and have been slowly adding new pieces to it as I gear up for the second novel.  There are a couple key pieces that’ll remain on the board throughout the writing/plotting of the trilogy, but otherwise, new items are added to fit the vibe of the current novel and the style of the main character.

Also, my vanity is slowly being taken over by books, and I think mine are on the verge of being the mass contributor.  For anyone who remembers seeing old photos of my pin board that I shared during the creation of The Red Eisling, you’ll recognize the mask.  Sadly, the ties broke, which is why it’s relocated from the board to the vanity, but don’t worry, Clearly and its masquerades are far from over.

minor details: feathers, rope handles, nailtini polish, peacock feathers, and the mad hatter’s fraction.

After the thunder and the rain.

Played a little with my hair and makeup today, which means I attempted a smokey eye for the first time in my life.  Yikes!

Apparently, pairing your author bio with a picture is customary.  I have a feeling none of these would make the cut.  Your thoughts?
